LinkedIn Bluesky Threads Facebook Press Release December 13, 2019 Irvine Board of Directors Approves $13.9 Million in Grants on December 11, 2019 Vaishalee Raja Vaishalee Raja The James Irvine Foundation Board of Directors approved 18 grants totaling more than $13.9 million earlier this week. The grants included support for the Foundation’s two initiatives focused on California workers (Better Careers and Fair Work), including a grant that will support restaurant workers earning low wages in California. The board also approved additional grants for the Foundation’s recent efforts related to Protecting Immigrant Rights and for a culminating initiative (Voter and Civic Engagement). The full list of board-approved grants includes: Initiatives Better Careers Jewish Vocational & Career Counseling Service A two-year grant of $500,000 for a public sector job training and placement strategy that expands on existing partnerships and builds new capabilities in healthcare, utilities, and technology training. Reading and Beyond An 18-month grant of $1 million for the California Bridge Academy program to support workforce development in Fresno through a one-on-one workforce navigation model that enables participants with some college credits but no degrees or certificates to access and succeed in living-wage careers. Fair Work Chinese Progressive Association A two-year grant of $600,000 for general operating support. Koreatown Immigrant Workers Alliance A two-year grant of $450,000 for general operating support. National Domestic Workers Alliance Inc. A two-year grant of $3 million to ensure labor protections and improved professional opportunities for domestic and home care workers in California. Restaurant Opportunities Centers (ROC) United A two-year grant of $970,000 to support restaurant workers earning low wages in California through expanded organizing, training, and outreach to employers. Working Partnerships USA A two-year grant of $800,000 for general operating support. Additional Grantmaking Protecting Immigrant Rights Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees A one-year grant of $375,000 to engage and mobilize California philanthropy on immigration issues and 2020 Census. Immigrant Legal Resource Center A two-year grant of $600,000 to protect immigrant rights in California through education, advocacy, and technical assistance. Regional Access Project Foundation, Inc. An 18-month grant of $400,000 to protect immigrant rights in Coachella Valley. Other Grantmaking California YIMBY A two-year grant of $750,000 for the expansion of housing organizing and education. Housing California A two-year grant of $1.35 million for regranting and the development of a statewide plan to advance solutions that end the housing affordability, stability, and homelessness crisis by 2030. The Aspen Institute, Inc. A four-year grant of $400,000 to support the pilot of California Good Companies/Good Jobs in using business incentives to boost high-road employer practices and expand opportunity for frontline workers. Culminating Work Voter and Civic Engagement Korean Resource Center, Inc. A two-year grant of $400,000 for general operating support. Orange County Asian Pacific Islander Community Alliance, Inc. A two-year grant of $375,000 to support nonpartisan voter and civic engagement in Orange County, through the Orange County Civic Engagement Table Strategic Concepts in Organizing and Policy Education A two-year grant of $490,000 for general operating support.
