X (formerly Twitter) Facebook LinkedIn Press Release March 30, 2020 Irvine Board of Directors Approves $1.85 Million in Grants on March 26, 2020 Vaishalee Raja Vaishalee Raja The James Irvine Foundation Board of Directors approved three grants totaling $1.85 million last week, bringing the Foundation’s total grantmaking in 2020 to $8 million. The grants, among others, included support for the Foundation’s Fair Work initiative, strategic partnerships, and Irvine’s annual Leadership Awards. Example grants in 2020 include: Initiatives Fair Work Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy A two-year grant of $700,000 for general operating support. Additional Grantmaking National Immigration Forum A 30-month grant of $650,000 to support implementation in California of a program, Skills and Opportunity for the New American Workforce, that offers English language training for foreign-born workers, in partnership with California employers. Foundation for California Community Colleges A one-year grant of $500,000 to increase the capacity of the California Community College system to meet the needs of employers and low-income workers related to skills needed for today’s jobs. Leadership Awards Six one-year grants of $250,000 to the organizations whose leaders received the 2020 James Irvine Leadership Award, given for innovative solutions to critical state challenges that improve people’s lives, create opportunity, and contribute to a better California.
